According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a gravedigger is, “One that digs graves especially as a means of livelihood. In days of old a gravedigger mainly used a shove. Today they use everything from a shovel to a backhoe.

Frank Strelow, an 81-year-old gravedigger, lives in Rush City, Minnesota. Strelow is an Army Veteran from the Korean War and has lived in the Rush City area his whole life. He lived on a farm in his early days with his parents. After his military commitment was complete, he farmed on his own for a few years and then started an excavation company. Several years ago he was in a bad accident and lost an eye. After recovering from the accident, he stuck with his excavation business and now in his golden years is a gravedigger. In the audio story, Gravedigger, he talks about his grave digging. Strelow’s son Mark helps him on occasion and has remarked that it is spooky filling in the grave after whoever has been laid to rest.

Encyclopaedia Britannica states, “Sasquatch also called Bigfoot is a large hairy human like creature believed by some to exist in the Northwestern United States and Western Canada. Sasquatch is variably described as a primate ranging from 6 to 15 feet tall, standing on two feet, often giving off a foul smell, and either moving silently or emitting a high-pitched cry.”

24-Inch Footprints

Encyclopaedia Britannica stated, “Footprints have measured up to 24 inches in length and 8 inches in with.” Jeffrey Meldrum, Ph.D. is a Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology at Idaho State University. In an article, Is Bigfoot Real, and tells of how he has studied Bigfoot phenomena since he was 11 years of age and has collected over 200 casts of supposed Bigfoot tracks.

Jeffrey Meldrum, Ph.D. Interview

In an interview, Meldrum said, “I had a good fortune of being shown a set of tracks, quite extensive, provocatively fresh and very clear. There was no mistaking they were either an extremely clever hoax or were Sasquatch tracks.” In addition, he stated, “It was obvious to me that it was an animate living foot that had left those tracks, not a mechanical contrivance or prosthetic big foot.”

To the authenticity of his collection, Meldrum stated, “I think that the vast majority of the examples have been well documented and do represent the footprint of a real creature.”

DNA and Sasquatch

In an article, “Genetic analysis of hair samples attributed to yeti, Bigfoot and other anomalous primates,” the results of research to identify the species’ origin of 30 hair samples were released. The results were that the hairs were from a range of extant mammals.

A team of Scientists from the Sasquatch Genome Project announced on November 24, 2012 the results of their study of DNA samples from a species known as Bigfoot or Sasquatch. The study shows that Sasquatch is in North America and is a human relative that came into being about 13,000 years ago and is a cross between a man and a primate species.

A team of experts in genetics, forensics, imaging and pathology did the study. Dr. Melba S. Ketchum in Nacogdoches, Texas led the team. In an interview, she states, “When I first started the project I did not believe it, but now I do. The DNA proves it.”

The Webster Dictionary defines demon as, “A spirit or immaterial being, holding a middle place between men and deities in pagan mythology. An evil spirit, a devil.” Britannica Online Encyclopedia describes angels and demons as, “Any benevolent or malevolent spiritual being that mediates between the transcendent and temporal realms.” Britannica Online Encyclopedia goes on further to say that demons are malevolent beings, “They are demons, fallen angels, ghosts, goblins, evil spirits by nature and hybrid creatures that hinder man in achieving a proper relation with God.”

Peter Kreeft, Ph.D.

Dr. Peter Kreeft, a professor of philosophy at Boston College, talks about angels and demons in a video titled, “Dr. Peter Kreeft on Angels & Demons: Who They Are, and How They Influence Us.” He starts his talk by asking the question, “What do we really know about angels and demons?” His answer was short, “Not much.” He goes on to say. “The reason we are fascinated by them is because we are fascinated by intelligence in non-human form.”

Dr. Kreeft also talks about why our society ignores angels and demons. He said, “Most people think that angels are somehow unscientific and that science has disproved the supernatural, angels and miracles.” Dr. Kreeft recommends that when someone says this to you, to ask him or her two questions. First, ask them, “What science did that?” Second, ask them, “Which discovery of which scientist made where and when, proved how, has disproved the existence of the supernatural?” He goes on to say that even if there is no good scientific reason to believe in angels and demons there are good logical philosophical reasons to believe in them. Also, there are conclusive theological reasons for believing them. Dr. Kreeft said, “The purely rational, logical reason for believing in angels and demons is a probability of their existence, and that it is very difficult for us to overcome our ignorance about angels and demons.” He states that if you believe in God, then you have to believe in angels and demons because God did. He said, “If angels don’t exist then Jesus was mistaken, and if Jesus was mistaken he was not Divine. If he is not Divine than Christianity isn’t true.” He talks about how we can meet them spiritually and have a two-way conversation with them. How we can see them is because they disguise themselves by assuming human bodies. A way to tell if an angel is real is to offer him some food. If he eats, he is a real angel. If he refuses to eat, then he is a ghost. An angel or a demon can’t hear you unless you speak to them. They cannot force themselves on you unless you let them. They can’t put choices in your mind or judgments in your will. However, they can put images in your imagination and feelings into your heart. The ones from angels help you and the ones from demons harm you. Emotions and imaginations are partly physical and partly spiritual and because of this, angels and demons can influence them. Dr. Kreeft said, “Demons bother you in three different ways, temptation, oppression, and possession.” He believes that we should take demons seriously on one hand and lightheartedly with the other, and to tell them they can’t harm you. Tell them to leave you alone.

Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis

Rabbi Geoffrey W. Dennis has been the rabbi of Kol Ami since 1999 and was ordained at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He also has undergraduate degrees in Education and Nursing. He has published many articles on topics from theology to pastoral care and authored a book titled, The Encyclopedia of Jewish Myth, Magic, and Mysticism. In an interview Rabbi Dennis said, “Demons are spirits that act malevolently against human beings,” and “Demons occupy an intermediate place between mortals and angels.” He went on to say, “They resemble angels in three ways: They have wings, they can fly throughout the universe, and they hear what transpires in heaven.” Rabbi Dennis stated, “ The malevolent effects of demons are many: they cause illness and death, especially for the vulnerable. They trouble and deceive the mind, and cause contention in the community of mortals.” He concluded by saying, “Intriguingly, a mortal can work beneficently with demons if one knows the rituals of power to control them.”

In 2008 an old farmhouse that was over 100 years old and resided at 50955 Elmcrest Ave., Rush City, Minnesota, was donated to the Rush City Fire Department to be used for training purposes and burned to the ground. On April 24, 2008, the training took place, and the house burned.

In an interview, Mosimann recalls bizarre paranormal phenomena that he and others witnessed in the house and in an old barn that was also on the property.

In the barn, upon several occasions over a two-year period he said, “He kept thinking he was hearing somebody say Hey, Hey you Hey, all the time.” Mosimann said, “That after a couple years of that, something screamed real loud.”

The window, where the smiling face came out of, was Adam Mosimann’s bedroom window. Mosimann talked about one time when he was remodeling his bedroom and had molding standing in a corner. One night he was awoken by a noise, and he said, “I watched it stand out away from the wall and fall down.”

Mosimann talked about an incident when he was being disciplined by sitting in the kitchen until he ate his vegetables from dinner. He said, “I heard a support beam fly out across the basement.”

In another incident, Mosimann talks about one time his girlfriend came to the house. He was upstairs in his bedroom a heard a scream. He said, “I heard her screaming from the bottom of the steps, I run down and she couldn’t see anything. All, she could see, is a guy in a hat.”

Terry Jaskowiak and his family lived in the old farmhouse during the 1950’s. In an interview, he said he and his brother had heard many strange noises in the house. In the barn, they had been chased by a dark shadow.

PARANORMAL PHENOMENA – YES OR NO states that the definition of paranormal as, “Events or abilities outside the range of normal experiences that remain unexplained by established science.”

The Society for Scientific Exploration, founded in 1982, is a professional organization made up of scientists and scholars who study unusual and unexplained phenomena. A scholar, Peter A. Sturrock, the former director of Stanford University’s Center for Space Science and Astrophysics wrote an article, “The Study of Paranormal Phenomena Can Be Scientific.” In the article, he said, “Carl Sagan was correct in asserting that ‘extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence,’ but that does not mean that anything less than extraordinary evidence may be ignored.”

A paranormal phenomena experience can happen anywhere, at any time.

Paranormal Facts

On their website, the Arizona Paranormal Society list a number of paranormal facts they believe to be true. Facts the Society describes are:

  • Ghost: A phenomena that will happen when an apparition appears over and over in the same location. Some emotional energy charged by human aura replays the phenomena as if it were real.

  • Spirit: The actual nucleus or soul, which remains after a person’s physical body, has expired.

  • Can ghosts follow you: After you leave a haunted location ghosts and spirits will not follow.

  • Taunting spirits: Do not provoke the dead. The Society states, “It has been proven that our conscious attitude affects paranormal reality.”

  • Poltergeist: Poltergeist is a German word meaning noisy spirit and usually does not have anything to do with ghosts or spirits. It is believed to be caused by the subconscious mind and is known as psychokinetic activity.

  • Demons: Demons are rare and usually only come into your life if they are invited one way or another.

  • Doppelganger: Doppelganger is a German word for spirit double. It is the spirit of a person outside of their body and can mean death will come soon.

The two establishments that were discussed as to being haunted are the Grant House and The Old Jail Bed and Breakfast. Colonel Russell H. Grant, a second cousin to President Ulysses S. Grant, built the original Grant House in 1880. Many Grant House ghost stories have been documented over the years. The Old Jail Bed and Breakfast, built in 1884, consists of The Jail Cottage, The Cave Suite, The Balcony Suite and The Overlook Suite.

The meeting concluded after about an hour, when all had shared their stories of the bizarre and unexplained.

When Cocker was asked about it, he replied, “ Wow, that was a long time ago, but we got in big trouble for that one, the doll was my sisters.” Duddy also said, “His uncle always has a unique way of expressing himself, through his art or writing books.” When Corker’s brother Todd was asked about him, he got a smile on his face and said, “Corker was 7 years younger, and as kids he was always getting in the way.”

Corker’s interest in the paranormal started when he was a kid. In the house, he grew up in he saw a ghost and heard noises above his room. His x-wife whom he had been with for twenty-four years is gifted paranormal researcher. He said, “ She has crazy abilities and can dream about something before it happens.” Cocker started the R.C.P.S. Rush City Paranormal Society in 2008. He has thousands of followers and 8 active investigators. When asked if he is afraid of spirits or demons he replied, “I am more afraid of the living than the dead.” He has been on several talk radio shows.
